Basically, Hollis woods goes up the mountain because she likes it up there, but Steven tells her not to be late and get home. But Hollis does is late and Steven worries. He drives up the mountain with "the old man's" truck and picks up Hollis. When they drive down the hill the truck doesn't want to slow down and they get into a crash. Steven gets hurt badly. Hollis regrets ever going up that mountain.
Josie and Hollis run away up to the shed that "the old man" owns. They have Christmas there and give each other presents. Hollis starts thinking someone is there with them. Later on, Josie gives Hollis a doll that she has been working on since the day Hollis went to stay with her. Josie says that the doll has "giving arms".
